Café Aroma: Why?

Why would anyone choose to go to his place? We have a ton of beautiful, authentic, old, new, cafes why would you choose this one?

Their coffee is ok I have to admit, but...

1. Service.

What´s the point in going to a cafe when you have to ask for the coffee at the counter? You are probably thinking "this diva doesn´t understand the concept of fast food" You are wrong! I do understand that concept, but this place is not like MCdonalds where food is fast for real. There were 3 people behind eh counter. The cashier who was also in charge of putting the croissants, cakes, whatever in you tray, then the coffee maker girl, who was operating a machine that could make 5 coffees at the same time but apparently she didn´t know how to prepare more than 1 at a time, and a guy scratching his private parts with total impunity . I spent about 15 minutes waiting for my cafe au lait (why in french?) and he maybe 5 more till the girl charged me.

2. Food

They don´t have Sugar and spice cookies. WRONG!!! Plus I went here at 8.30 am and they had already run out of croissants, can you believe that? 89,9% of porteños eat that for breakfast, haven´t they thought about that? Buy 6000 croissants and 12 raisin cookies, not the other way around, Aroma manager

3.Ambient

I cannot stand fake wood, and they have it all over the place ,which, by the way, has no personality at all, like the crap they serve.

4. Coolness

Nonexistent (except for he few minutes I spent in there).

5. Cleanness

There are 2 types of cleanness. A- Clean B- So damn clean that smells like a private hospital. This is the type B. But they didn´have toilet paper when I went.

5. Other things

They have those big fridges where you can grab bottled water and other beverages, that later you have to pay at the counter. So far is the same process hat in any kiosk, so what´s the difference? That they charge you double.

I am SO glad you are speaking up and bitching about things that should be bitched about! Thank you! I am sick to death of the "Oh BsAs is so perfect!" mantra. Nothing is perfect, so come on, people! Tell it like it is!

Thank you, Cherie.
I don´t hear a lot of " buenos aires is perfect" though...

Hi Diva,

What do you mean they don´t have Sugar & Spice Cookies? Which one did you go to? Did they have any of our cookies? When did you go?

Believe me, when I see a mistake I let them know and their headquarters also like it when I inform them of things.

Luckily I have had very few problems with them.

They didn´t have them at the counter at that time at least. I end up asking for a budin de limon that wasn´t yours.
It was like 2 weeks ago in the one in Florida.

Don´t mention me, they´ll send me one of their bad guys to kick me. I don´t want that!!!

The only reason for Aroma is for WiFi. The music can be horrible. But if you live in a little flat and need to do some work, then Aroma can work.

Hi Rchinn, probably there are more places with wi-fi next to your apartment, sometimes they don´t put the wi-fi sign in the door but they have the conection

Completely agree with you. Service sucks but basically because it's in charge of high-school students who feel they're doing you a favor (is paying 25 pesos for a lunch a favor?) don't think so.

Oddly enough, I think the success of Aroma cafes has to do with an Argentine inferiority complex. Aroma is seen as an American-style cafe and therefore it MUST be better. Sometimes Argentines don't appreciate their own culture.

I detest Aroma and have complained to them about their poor service. They told me it was "self-service" --- bullshit! If it were self-service, I could just pay, they would give me a cup and I could pour my own damn coffee and not have to wait forever!

Hola Carito, por suerte no comi un almuerzo ahi nunca,ni lo haré.
Barbara, maybe it works like that, seriously I couldn´t find any reason why someone would choose that place.
Rosh V. go and take some pictures and then I´ll post them

Hi Diva,

Yep, the budines are not mine. They only carry my cookies and brownies. Nothing else.

They did add the cookie bags on the counter so that people can buy them and take them back to the office.

They are also considering adding some other products of mine, but for now, the only ones that are mine are the three cookies they have, the brownies, as well as the two cookie varieties (chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin) in the snack bags on the counter.

Yes, I agree, although the sandwiches are good, the service is really painfully annoying. I normally see around 6 people behind the counter all running about busily but achieving nothing, it feels like you'll be stuck behind the Aroma counter for a hopeless eternity.
The sandwiches and brownies are what make me come back, but watching the staff running around whilst waiting to pay just makes me so annoyed that i often leave! Also it annoys me when i get asked if i need help choosing a sandwich! What a ridiculous question.

Diva said...

Hi Thanks for your comment.
I was thinking about the helping- you-choose-the-sandwich thing, probably if they ask that question is because some people actually make use of that free service, lame.

Hello Muchachos,,, I live in Buenos Aires and It's funny how I get here,,, but doesn't matter. 1)The point is that there are some aroma coffee like this guy said before, but if you go to Palermo,,, maybe you could find a better place. 2) We have croissants for breakfast and it's crazy for you,,, but you guys have bacon and eggs and it's crazy for us. So,,, Cultures are Cultures and sometimes it sounds strange. 3)Aroma is a Company which tries to destroy small Coffees in Buenos Aires, so I recommend to go to the "100 bares portenos", Are pretty, clean and you will find culture from Argentina. 4)If for any reason you miss Starbucks or something like that to have breakfast, there are two in Buenos Aires, one in Palermo and the other one in Puerto Madero where you can find the "Triple venti vanilla late" that I love it!! and other of course,,,, some are ours and others are yours. Buenos Aires is a really pretty city, the only thing is that you need some more time to know and enjoy it. I love NYC too,, what a wonderful city!!!!

Enjoy foreing cultures, Enjoy the trip, Enjoy our world!!

Saludos!!!

Peter from Buenos Aires
