Theater Colon turns 100

One of the most important opera houses in the world is closed for its birthday because they are "restoring it". This process started 2 years ago, and the works were going to finish before the 100th anniversary, but, since we are in Argentina, and we are always running a little bit late, it will take another 2 years till the restoration is complete.

This theater is one of the must- sees in Buenos Aires, and even though you cannot enjoy a show in there, at least you can take a guided visit. But only for 2 weeks, after that they´ll go back to "work".

Here is the link of the calendar with all the guided visits and the performances (that will take place in other theaters)

Despite the fact that Argentina’s most prestigious opera house, the Teatro Colon, is still closed for renovations, the city is celebrating its 100th anniversary. One of the major opera houses of the world, the theater has hosted such singers as Pavarotti and is one of the prides of the city. The series of 20 events celebrating its place in Argentine culture and history begins tomorrow at 8:30 with a concert at Teatro Opera by the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra, performing the music of Alberto Ginastera. There will also be tours of the opera house and further performances by the Colon Theater Chamber Opera, Academic Orchestra, and Stable Ballet. Tickets for all events are on sale at the Colon Theater’s box office, 4378-7315.

Great post,
Cheers,
Dannie
