Breast Cancer Is Sexy!!! (in BA at least)

The image you see above this lines could be the cover of a porn (or soft porn) movie called something like "Boobs galore" "Boobs part 9" or "Boobylicious". But it´s not. It´s the ad for a breast cancer awareness campaign. Sexy, uh?
In case you don´t know, boobs, buts, and "lesbians" images are used in any kind of advertisment campaing, from cars to aspirins, from lengerie to Breast cancer! Almost every magazine has at least one of these images in their cover. Aparently this is the only way to make porteños buy a magazine.
We live in a city covered in naked female images, I think that in a few years, guys from BA will beg you : "Put on your clothes, it´s soooo sexy". I recently read the results of a survey and they said that being exposed to sexy images all the time turns off 58% of the male population...
Anyway, that breast cancer ad makes me sick. Please, if you see one; vandalize it.
Thank you

Thank you! I started seeing these billboards about a month ago and I immediately got a pain in the pit of my stomach. I have grown accustomed to seeing naked women everywhere in Buenos Aires but I draw the line here. Sexualizing deadly cancer? These ads are outrageous and do absolutely zero to promote breast cancer awareness, testing, prevention, treatment, etc.
Why not show photos of women who have LOST a breast to cancer and, surprise, are still sexy?
This ad is at cross purposes with urging women to get checked: Omigod, it's better to die than to be disfigured!!
I'm a two-time survivor, and what I heard from an oncologist here is that women are so afraid of losing a breast that when they are diagnosed it is often too late. Therefore there are more radical mastectomies than lumpectomies and radiation. And of course, sadly, more deaths.
Wake up, Latin America!!
I noticed this a couple weeks ago myself. It's hard not to stare. Why, I want to know, if they are making the statement that everyone is possibly a victim, does it have to be 50% fake boobs? Really? Is that talking about "everyone?" Or do just the women in Palermo need to be worried? I don't like it either. TACKY.
I've noticed the ad around a lot lately too and it didn't really bother me. Breasts are beautiful and I didn't look at that as sexy at all. Then again, I am probably just numb due to overexposure to naked female images this year. ;-
However, I agree with Cherie, why not have women who have lost a breast to cancer? I think that would make a much more powerful statement.
The caption, written in very large letters, that went with that ad is women are all different (hence showing different kinds of breasts) but equal in the eyes of cancer. Personally, I like how they didn't cover up the naked truth. I mean, this is about BREAST cancer. What else are they going to show in the ad? Feet? White doves?
Hi girsl, thanks for your commentrs;
Like Cherie, I thought about the same thing. Put the picture of a women without a breast.
For caroline, the ad would be fair if they showed all kinds of boobs, because aparently cancer doesn´t make any difference between women aged 15 to 35, but I don´t see any 50 year old boobs there (not to mention 70 yo boobs)
Fair enough.
Hey, I like your blog! It's true what you say: they should put up breasts of women aged 40 and over; after all, it's the age in which breast cancer affects the most, isn't it? Anyway, with the caption missing I guess that yes, it's quite of a morbid ad (and even with it it is still so, but anyway, that's BA...). For some reason, this ad made me recall that December 1st when the Obelisco was covered in a condom.
Cheers.
Aside from boobs of all ages, they should also post photos of men's chests, because they get breast cancer too.
BTW, did you know it's much harder to diagnose breast cancer if you have implants? Why don't women think of that? Or maybe it just goes with the Live Today For Tomorrow We... mentality that is so prevalent.
WElcome Julo. I do remember that moment. Actually I was around when they were putting it and at first I thought that they were putting a Santa{s hat on it...
Hey Cherie, thanks for all the info, I didn{t know any of those facts. I guess I have to cancell my breast augmentation surgery I{d schedule for tomorrow
best
